Feature Overview
Katacontainers provides a myriad of benefits including but not limited to isolation, mixed payloads, multi-tenancy (e.g., CNF vendors on the same host in the context of Telco), kernel isolation (host and guest), and more. These benefits served to attract multiple customers, where a large portion of those customers are from the Telco 5G space.
That said, to satisfy the requirements for Telco use-cases (e.g., high performance, no nesting), we are creating this feature to track and contain all efforts to test, validate, and qualify the deployment of Katacontainers on bare-metal hardware.
Background, and strategic fit
Telco is a key use-case for Kata, and is also the background of one of the first large potential customers, therefore it is important to enable the telco use-case on Kata to drive further adoption, and providing Kata on bare-metal serves that purpose.
Goal(s)
The main goal is to make sure that Kata is functional (tested, validated, and Qualified) with Baremetal hardware.
