        2. Who is the customer behind the request?

        Kroger's
        Account Number: 636236
        TAM customer: no
        SRM customer: no
        Strategic: yes

        3. What is the nature and description of the request?

Just to have a package that we already provide through the rhceph-4-osd-for-rhel-8-x86_64-rpms and rhceph-4-mon-for-rhel-8-x86_64-rpms repositories added to the RHEL 8 repository.

        4. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)

Kroger and their business partners use the XML format to exchange data. The customer, having used the XMLStarlet command line utilities before, know that they would be very helpful.

Yet the customer also wants the ease of installing it from the RHEL 8 standard repository and the ease of maintaining it, knowing that Red Hat will publish errata if bugs are found.

        5. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)

The xmlstarlet package is added to the RHEL 8 standard repository.

        6. For each functional requirement listed, specify how Red Hat and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.

On a RHEL8 server that has been registered to either the Customer Portal or the customer's Satelllite 6 server, run the command "yum -y install xmlstarlet" successfully.

        7. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat Bugzilla?

I could not find one when searching Bugzilla for "xmlstarlet".

        8. Does the customer have any specific timeline dependencies and which release would they like to target (i.e. RHEL5, RHEL6)?

        RHEL 8

        9. Is the sales team involved in this request and do they have any additional input?

Yes. Solution Architecture Regional Senior Manager Brian Likosar (blikosar@redhat.com; "liko" on IRC) is the one that asked for this RFE on behalf of the customer.

        10. List any affected packages or components.

        xmlstarlet

        11. Would the customer be able to assist in testing this functionality if implemented?

        Yes.

Any possibilities of this getting included?

Ondrej, is this something your team can evaluate?

I'll note that there isn't much inherent value to including this in RHEL directly and we don't normally add new packages that are already provided by other products only to simplify installation. The teams that maintain RHEL content and layered product content are different as well.

Hi Piyush, thanks for pinging me, I missed the comment from Josh and I'm on watchlist for way too many bugzillas. Let me check with my team... the maintenance burden seems to be low based on Fedora - just few FTBFS and releases watch. Simple spec file, relatively small C package with existing test suite.. OTOH, already exists in EPEL, so available unsupported from these repositories. I'm not objecting, but I need to check with QE team whether they are fine with accepting one more package.

Hi @ovasik@redhat.com I just wanted to ask if there is a documentation needed for the upcoming release? Thanks in advance.

--- Additional comment from Ondrej Vasik on 2022-03-17 09:40:19 CET ---

Definitely not for 8.6.0 - we haven't progressed with that one yet. Based on my discussion with devels and qe, they are tentatively ok with adding this package to the release. However, noone is really interested in taking it. So we can add xmlstarlet as it is, but if there are RFEs coming, capacity to work on them might be limited.

      Please follow these steps:

      • Add the package to the allowlist in CentOS Stream koji
      • Add the package repository to the gitlab.com namespace
      • Assign the maintainer in CentOS Stream koji
