      = GitHub Device Authentication support for extensions in Microsoft Visual Studio Code - Open Source

      With this release, you can use GitHub Device Authentication in Microsoft Visual Studio Code - Open Source to activate extensions. For more information about this feature, check link:https://docs.github.com/en/apps/oauth-apps/building-oauth-apps/authorizing-oauth-apps#device-flow[GitHub device activation flow].

      The GitHub Copilot extension can now be activated using GitHub Device Authentication. To activate it, follow these steps:

      . Authenticate to GitHub using the new "Device Authentication" command.
      . Install the GitHub Copilot extension by uploading the VSIX file. You must repeat the upload for every new workspace.

    Description

      How to install and use the GitHub Copilot extension in the Visual Studio Code workspace is not documented—even though this extension is not open-source and is proprietary software. 

      The release notes for GitHub Copilot v1.7 contain information about: "Some improvements to “Open GitHub Copilot”, so it looks like the not open-source may change.

      Generally, we will need information about installing extensions not part of the Open VSX Registry.
