Possibility to mount PVC directly to the workspaces

The customer is requesting to have an option to access shared files directly from a workspace. Have the option to mount PVCs for example to /storage folder in the workspace directly. To be able to open it for example with File -> Open.

I know that it is problematic to define PV/PVC for the whole workspace pod because we need to know the whole workspace pod configuration before starting the workspace pod. Adding one more PV will need to restart the whole workspace. It should be possible adding a volume to the workspace pod deployment, but the Che operator will redefine this deployment after any change.
