Change default notification icon in Android > 5 (Lollipop)

Since Android 5.0, notifications have change in several ways (http://developer.android.com/design/patterns/notifications.html), including a new style in the notification's icon.
It would be nice to be able to change the default notification icon (which is the application icon) to avoid getting a white icon like these:
